Two Signatures of the Barossa , Moderated by Steve Meckiff
Australian Riesling in an international context and journey through the length and breadth of the Barossa.
Bracket 1:
‘Australian Riesling in an International Context’ – promoted a discussion of the pristine nature of contemporary Australian dry Riesling, delving into its quality and its age-worthiness, and leading participants through a definition of its provincial character as the wines tighten in regional appellation up to the cool heights of Eden Valley.
Bracket 2:
‘Barossa Terroir Expressed in Shiraz’ – participants were taken on a journey through the length and breadth of the Barossa, exploring parcels of Shiraz from seven different sites including one with 90-year-old vines, and demonstrate how winemakers select parcels to build unique and distinct regional Shiraz wines. The depth of this sub-regional tasting will give you a new appreciation of the Barossa Valley as a premier Shiraz growing region and the influence of the soils, microclimates and viticultural techniques at each site. All were barrel samples taken from the 2012 vintage.
